At the meeting of the club on Thursday 29 November at Aston Wood Golf Club, the Chairman was Mike Cooper and the theme was “Travel”.
There were three main speeches. The first speech, by Alyson Nicholls, was well received and described her experiences on a plane journey to the far east with her mother. The second speech, which was impromptu, with 10 minutes to prepare it, was given by Di Mitchell, the Club President on the subject “It is better to travel hopefully than to arrive”. This was a good speech, covering a wide range of topics. The third speech, by Amo Singh was entitled “I wish I was there” and described some of his experiences during a recent trip to Singapore and Australia. He concentrated on word pictures, giving a vivid description of a heavy rain storm in Singapore. The speeches were each evaluated by club members including a good first-time evaluation of Amo Singh’s speech by Vince Kesterton. Although this was has first attempt, the General Evaluator, David Dugmore awarded him the trophy for the best evaluation of the evening.
The topics session, also on the subject of travel, was chaired by Pamela Brown and club members each gave a three minute speech on subjects provided by her. Topics were evaluated by Alex Mitchell and he awarded the trophy for the best topic to Alyson Nicholls for her topic on the subject “Messing about on the river”
The next meeting will be at 8.0pm at Aston Wood Golf Club on 13/12/6. For further information Contact Di Mitchell on 0121 354 3291 or Mike Cooper on 0121 355 2509
